Sculpting the Future: The Hickman Building's New Chapter.

Transforming Visions into Reality: A Pioneering Journey of a Spectacular Office Fit-Out and Innovative Workplace Design at The Hickman Building.

Set against the backdrop of Whitechapel’s rich history and dynamic evolution, the transformation of The Hickman Building unfolds as a testament to the power and efficiency of the D&B approach, masterfully led by Morgan Lovell. They stand at the forefront of the Design and Build industry, a realm where creativity meets construction under one roof. Every step, from initial client consultations to the final touches of fit-out, is handled in-house – ensuring a level of harmony and understanding across the project lifecycle that traditional methods can seldom match.

In close collaboration with Morgan Lovell, City Concepts has expertly executed the commercial glazing, playing a crucial role in transforming the vision of renowned architects and designers into reality. This project not only showcases the bespoke craftsmanship of City Concepts but also sets a new precedent in the integration of design and functionality for a prestigious fashion and retail brand’s workspace.

Project Insights

Unfolding across an expansive 26,000 square feet distributed over two levels, this project stands as a monumental undertaking not merely in terms of its scale but also in its vision to revolutionise workspace design. Tasked with a discerning budget and operating within a tight timeline of just 8 weeks, the collaborative effort was monumental. The challenge was to seamlessly integrate the opulent and dynamic aesthetic principles of high fashion with the pragmatic requirements of contemporary office functionality.

The design intent was to create an environment that not only reflects the brand’s identity but also enhances the daily experiences of its employees, encouraging creativity, productivity, and well-being. Our team leveraged their expertise in commercial glazing and sought to introduce natural light and transparency, crafting spaces that feel open yet intimate and dynamic yet serene.

Design Philosophy.

Morgan Lovell were the architects of both the vision and its execution, managing the entire fit-out with precision and flair. This approach allowed for an unparalleled level of cohesion and synergy, as design decisions could be fluidly translated into construction realities, with real-time adjustments that traditional methods would find challenging. The heart of this transformation for City Concepts lies in the sophisticated interplay between materials and light. The choice of ST44 timber doors, meticulously finished in stained black oak and set against F3 aluminium frames, speaks volumes about the project’s bold, yet refined aesthetic. The introduction of Concept54 single glazed partitions, enhanced with distinctive T-bar banding creates transparency and connectivity throughout the workspace. T3 tech panels, seamlessly integrated, underscore the commitment to a workspace that is as technologically adept as it is visually stunning.

Aesthetics and Functionality in Harmony

Adorned in RAL 9005, the project’s black framework introduces a dramatic contrast that anchors the space’s design ethos. The selection of stainless steel ironmongery from Franchi Glass, featuring knurled pull handles, injects an industrial edge, enriching the tactile experience of the environment.

Mastering Challenges with Collaborative Precision

The journey of transforming the Hickman Building was navigated with unparalleled expertise, significantly bolstered by City Concepts’ ongoing relationship with Morgan Lovell. This partnership, enriched by previous engagements, laid a robust groundwork for tackling the project’s unique challenges. Under the adept leadership of Project Manager Matt Kelly, our team’s profound understanding of the building’s characteristics paved the way for an execution that was as creatively rewarding as it was operationally smooth.

A testament to our commitment to bespoke design and functional elegance was the development of a unique ‘split door’ solution. This feature, crafted under Matt’s guidance, exemplifies our dedication to merging client aspirations with the highest standards of build quality. It represents a keen attention to detail and an innovative approach to overcoming design challenges, ensuring the final product is tailored specifically to the client’s needs.

Anchored by a unified vision, Matt Kelly and the team worked in close coordination, transforming potential obstacles into opportunities for innovation. This collaboration has been the cornerstone of this project, ensuring that each phase of the transformation was marked by a seamless blend of design ingenuity and the epitome of construction excellence.

As we unveil this landmark achievement, it is a testament to the synergy between visionary thinking and collaborative spirit.
