Delivering Precision Inside an Iconic City Landmark with Concept100.
This month’s spotlight takes us to the heart of London’s insurance district, within the iconic Willis Building at 51 Lime Street. Across 16,000 sq. ft. of commercial office space, City Concepts was appointed by StructureTone London (STL) to deliver a bespoke glazing system for a global pensions and market services group.
Designed by Hermantes Studio, this workspace combines acoustic performance with clean architectural detailing – delivered over a 13-week period in one of the most logistically complex environments in the City of London.
System Highlights: Sound Meets Style.
City Concepts supplied and installed a fully acoustic glazing system using our Concept100 double-glazed partitioning, paired with RD32 double-glazed acoustic doorsets. This setup achieved 48dB Rw for the screens and 42dB Rw for the doors, creating a highly effective acoustic barrier between open-plan and private areas.
All systems were finished in RAL 1019 Grey Beige, giving the space a refined, contemporary edge. Framing and handles were kept sleek with RAL 9004 Signal Black 25×25 square pull handles, supplied by Franchi, providing bold contrast and uniformity throughout.
The installation also included solid timber doors integrated seamlessly within our Concept100 glazed framework, adding visual warmth while maintaining consistency in form and finish.
Overcoming Complexity: Challenges on the Ground.
No commercial fit-out is without its intricacies – and this project was no exception.
The site’s 3-metre ceiling heights posed significant delivery and handling challenges, particularly when manoeuvring large-format glass into the building and onto the correct floor levels. Additionally, with timber flooring laid externally to the glazed areas, we fabricated and installed custom curved MDF packers to allow our glazing tracks to sit flush and integrate cleanly with the surrounding finishes.
One of the defining elements of this project was the inclusion of curved glass, which demanded absolute precision. Our team made a site visit to the glass manufacturer to oversee production firsthand, ensuring the curves were manufactured to spec and within tight lead times to meet the client’s programme.
